How our forecast is calculated

Ratios are calculated by dividing the weekly spot price of the sub-primal by the weekly spot price of live cattle or swine.

This Basic Forecast combines the historical ratios with the Live Cattle/Lean Hogs Futures curve to produce price estimates for specific sub-primals.

STEP 1: use the Forecasting Tool

Select the "Meat Prices" option in our side menu, and then proceed to the "Historical Prices (Charts)" section, in the protein of your choice.

/

STEP 2. View Forecast

Select “Weekly” for Frequency and click on the "View Fcst" button to continue.

/

STEP 3: Historical Ratios & Futures Prices

Then you will be able to see a section with historical ratios and futures prices.

/

STEP 4: Add custom ratios

To produce the ratios that will be used in the forecast you can select or de-select specific years of data.

/

STEP 5: Custom ratios selection

Below, you can also enter manually your own projected ratios to generate a custom forecast.
