CUTOUTS:

  • The Choice Cutout was priced at $3.94/lb, up $0.01/lb (+0.25%) from the prior week ($3.93/lb) and $0.28/lb (+7.65%) higher than the same week last year ($3.66/lb).
  • The Select Cutout was priced at $3.84/lb, down $0.03/lb (-0.78%) from the prior week ($3.87/lb) but $0.27/lb (+7.56%) above the same week last year ($3.57/lb).

LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTER:

Livestock slaughter reached 533,000 head this week, an increase of 85,000 head (+18.97%) compared to the prior week (448,000 head). However, this represents a decrease of 48,000 head (-8.26%) compared to the same week last year (581,000 head).

MEAT PRODUCTION:

Meat production totaled 479 million pounds, an increase of 76 million pounds (+18.86%) compared to the prior week (403 million pounds). However, production was 22 million pounds (-4.39%) lower than the same week last year (501 million pounds).

AVERAGE WEIGHTS:

  • The Average Weights - Dressed indicator was 901 lbs, up 1 lb (+0.11%) from the prior week (900 lbs) and 38 lbs (+4.40%) above the same week last year (863 lbs).
  • The Average Weights - Live indicator averaged 1,470 lbs, up 1 lb (+0.07%) from the prior week (1,469 lbs) and 59 lbs (+4.18%) higher than the same week last year (1,411 lbs).

CATTLE PRICES:

The STEER: LIVE FOB, Over 80% Choice price was $2.57/lb, unchanged from the prior week ($2.57/lb). Compared to the same week last year ($2.39/lb), prices were $0.18/lb (+7.53%) higher.

PACKER MARGINS:

Estimated gross packer margins totaled -$104.70/head, improving by $73.30/head (+41.18%) from the prior week (-$178.00/head). Despite this improvement, margins remained $56.50/head lower (-117.22%) than the same week last year (-$48.20/head).
