Executive Summary

Supply-Side Insights:

For Q4 2026, we project Total Supply for Domestic Consumption at 7,545 million pounds, +3.6% vs Q4 2025 and +3.8% vs Q3 2026:

  • Most of the increase vs Q3 2026 is expected to come from domestic production—about 300 million pounds.
  • Imports (25% of the Total Supply for Domestic Consumption) are likely to remain high:
    • From June to August 2026, imports from steady suppliers such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Mexico remained strong at around 270 million pounds per month, while imports from countries receiving tariff relief such as Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay, remained between 100 and 120 million pounds per month over the past two quarters.
    • The “Other Countries” category (which includes Brazil) still has more than 300 million pounds of its 2026 tariff-free quota unfilled.
    • Exports, which represent 9% of the Total Supply for Domestic Consumption, have remained steady at approximately 115 million pounds per month.

For Q1 2027, the latest USDA WASDE report estimates total domestic production at 6,080 million pounds, down 4.9% from the USDA WASDE projection for Q4 2026 projection and 1.1% from Q1 2026.

Pricing Insights:

Cattle prices have been below 2025 levels since mid-July 2026.

Beef Cutout CH prices in Q3 2026 ($3.75 to $3.78) remained lower than in Q3 2025 ($3.81 to $3.96), though our eight-week forecast projects this figure to reach $3.77 in October 2026 and $3.94 in November 2026.

We project the Cutout CH-to-cattle price ratio to increase over the next two months, implying improving margins for packers.

The ratio of the Beef Cutout CH to the Pork Cutout is reaching historical highs, with a peak ratio of 5.15 expected in November 2026.

Trimmings:

  • Prices of 50% and 90% CL trimmings have softened and are currently below 2025 levels.
  • The spread between domestic and imported 90% CL trimmings has been widening since the beginning of 2026 and has exceeded $1.00 over the past few weeks.
