R-CALF urges tariffs to protect U.S. cattle and sheep industries from imports

The CEO of R-CALF USA says tariffs should be supported by beef and sheep producers.

Bill Bullard tells Brownfield he’s encouraged by President Trump’s tariff actions.

“We’ve made a formal request to impose tariffs for our sheep producers because that industry has been decimated by the unlimited imports of lamb and mutton from Australia and New Zealand.”

He says tariffs can level the playing field for U.S. cattle producers.

“We’re also asking for tariff rate quotas and tariffs for our cattle industry because need to provide our producers the space they need to begin rebuilding the herd. They won’t do that unless they have confidence that their markets will be competitive.”

Bullard says it would also open the door for additional meat processing at the local level.
