NPPC visits Mexico to work toward USMCA renewal

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) met with trade officials last week in Mexico City for a third round of discussions regarding the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Earlier in July President Donald Trump announced the United States would not renew the USMCA, opting for annual reviews of the agreement over the next 10 years.

Members of NPPC who traveled to Mexico recently were Pat Hord, board member for NPPC and Maria C. Ziba, vice president of government affairs.

The Agricultural Coalition for USMCA, which includes the NPPC and more than 40 other agriculture groups, previously stated it strongly supported renewing the USMCA, which would benefit pork operations in the United States and North America.

“Ensuring USMCA remains intact is vital to continuing the mutually beneficial trading relationships US pork enjoys with both Canada and Mexico,” said Rob Brenneman president of NPPC.
