Fourth-generation, family-owned Standard Meat Co. (SMC) announced the upcoming opening of its fifth production plant, which is located near the company headquarters at the Fort Worth Stockyards.
The facility is currently undergoing soft-opening production, with a grand opening scheduled Sept. 17. The plant joins SMC’s portfolio of operations in Dallas, Irving, Saginaw and Ponder, Texas.
According to SMC, out of all its operations, the Stockyards facility is the “most technologically advanced to date.”
Designed for flexibility, the new plant enables SMC to scale existing technologies, such as sous vide and searing, while maintaining capacity for the integration of new customer needs and innovations that may arise.
The announcement of the plant coincides with the company’s 90th anniversary in business.
Officially founded in 1935, SMC’s roots date even further back to a family meat stall in Fort Worth’s historic public market. The company has since evolved into a global supplier for the foodservice and retail industries.
“Ninety years in, the SMC family has weathered countless challenges and helped guide our customers through them,” said Ashli Rosenthal Blumenfeld, co-president and fourth-generation leader at SMC. “We understand how to navigate uncertainty because we’ve done it before. When the world gets complicated, we get scrappy and creative. That’s the mindset we bring to our partners every day.”
