The Local Beef Directory will help Michigan beef producers connect with consumers.
This month, the Michigan Beef Industry Commission (MBIC) launched the Local Beef Directory, a new online resource that helps market beef producers who sell directly from their farms, making it easier for consumers to explore local beef purchasing options.
The directory is available here.
“Consumers are increasingly interested in learning more about where their food comes from and connecting with the farmers who raise it,” said Lindsay Green, director of marketing communications for MBIC. “Our new Local Beef Directory provides a convenient way to make those connections while highlighting the hardworking cattle producers across Michigan who are dedicated to raising high-quality beef.”
According to a statement, the directory is part of MBIC’s efforts to build consumer confidence in beef and strengthen connections between Michigan's beef industry and the communities it serves.
“By helping consumers discover opportunities to purchase beef directly from local farms, MBIC hopes to encourage conversations about beef production, animal care and the important role cattle producers play in Michigan agriculture,” the promotion and education organization said.
To be eligible, producers must comply with all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations governing direct-to-consumer beef sales; be current with all required Beef Checkoff remittances; and hold a current Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification, a nationally recognized educational and certification program that provides cattle producers with guidelines and best practices for proper animal care, handling and management.
