JBS to build sausage processing plant in Iowa

Officials with JBS USA announced plans to build a new $135-million sausage processing plant in Perry, Iowa. Once local approval is granted, construction will begin in late 2025 with a completion date of late 2026. The new facility is expected to produce 130 million lbs of sausage per year, processing 500,000 hogs annually and will start up operations with 250 employees working a single shift. Ultimately, the workforce will build up to 500 workers at the plant when a second shift is added.

Wesley Batista Filho, chief executive officer of JBS USA, said the decision to locate the facility in Perry was related to the community’s reputation for its strong producer traditions and residents whose work ethic is strong with a willingness to help feed the country.

“This investment underscores our commitment to rural America and our confidence in the strength of the US market,” Batista Filho said. “We plan to be a long-term partner for Perry and, if approved by the community, the facility will help foster job creation and economic stability in the region.”

Perry Mayor Dirk Cavanaugh said he supports the project and appreciates JBS USA’s track record for investing and supporting the communities where it operates processing plants.
