JBS receives approval for future expansion projects at Minnesota pork plant

JBS USA recently applied for a conditional use permit (CUP) with the city of Worthington, Minn., to increase the size of its plant there

According to documents from the city, JBS expects to add an approximately 19,000 square foot barn and CO₂ stun addition on the east side of the existing building.

During the meeting the staff recommended approving the requested CUP with one condition of substantial conformance with plans shown to the commission.

“The existing plant has been issued several conditional use permits over the years but none have granted blanket approval and future expansions, such as the one currently proposed, requires issuance of a new permit,” the city planning document said.

Other information provided by the city said the expansion would be located on the interior of the existing JBS site and would be largely shielded from close properties including other buildings and truck parking.
