Local pork producers are joining forces with Missouri Farmers Care to combat hunger in their communities through the "Hogs for Hunger" initiative.
According to the University of Missouri Extension Service, one in six children in the state are living with food insecurity.
That's why Missouri Farmers Care launched Hogs for Hunger in 2020, looking to address the issue by supplying area food pantries with locally produced pork.
The program, a collaboration with the Missouri Pork Association and the United Way of the Mark Twain Area, aims to connect pork producers with youth exhibitors to make generous donations to those in need.
"The goal is to connect pork producers with youth exhibitors with Missouri Farmers Care, so they make a generous donation to take care of members and neighbors in their community facing food insecurity," said Executive Director, Ashley McCarty.
