Big Beautiful Bill takeaways from meat trade groups

Following the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBA), meat trade organizations provided details on what the legislation would mean for various aspects of the business, including tax conditions, animal health funding and specific provisions from the farm bill that were included in the extensive legislation.

In their latest updates, the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) outlined how the new law would enhance resources for foreign animal disease (FAD) prevention by increasing funding to $233 million per year.

Funding included $153 million per year to the National Animal Vaccine and Veterinary Countermeasures Banks (NAVVCB), $70 million for the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN), and $10 million per year to the National Animal Disease Preparedness and Response Program (NADRPRP).

NPPC highlighted the continued funding of the Feral Swine Eradication and Control Pilot Program, which helps address the threat of feral swine to agriculture.

Other funds in the OBBA include several voluntary conservation programs over six years.

Additional pieces of the bill emphasized by NPPC included keeping the market access program for US pork, including the maintained funding for the Market Access Program and Foreign Market Development Program (FMD).
