Check your fridge and freezer: A massive recall for meat possibly contaminated with listeria includes products sold at popular grocers with stores in New York.
BrucePac has recalled about 9,986,245 pounds of meat and poultry, the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has announced. The meat was used in salads, frozen meals and other ready-to-eat products sold by some of the nation’s (and New York’s) biggest grocery stores, including Wegmans and Walmart.
The Oklahoma-based company recalled the gargantuan amount of meat after routine testing detected listeria in BrucePac’s ready-to-eat chicken, the USDA said.
Although the products haven’t been linked yet to any confirmed reports of “adverse reactions,” the USDA has deemed the event a “Class I” recall — a classification issued for products considered to pose a “reasonable probability of serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
What products are included in the BrucePac recall?
On Friday, the USDA issued an updated list of products that include BrucePac’s now-recalled meat. The document — which includes photos of ready-to-eat meals and labels — is a whopping 326 pages long.
Some of the products included in the recall that may have been sold at New York stores include:
> Salads sold at 7Eleven
> Salads sold at Trader Joe’s
> Salad bowls and frozen meals sold at Wegmans
> Frozen meals and salads sold at Walmart
> Salads sold at Target
> Meals from Aldi
> Taquitos sold at Costco
